In July 2009 the German contingent in Afghanistan, based in the northern region of Kunduz, received three KZO unmanned systems (Kleinfluggerät fur Zielortung, small aircraft for target acquisition) which considerably increased the German Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities in the area.
