Boeing Laser Gets Hemtt A4

The US Army’s High Energy Laser Technology Demonstrator programme saw another milestone reached in December 2009 when Boeing accepted the first Oshkosh eight-wheel, 500-hp Hemtt A4 truck for integration with the laser’s rugged beam control system (BCS). This event marked the move from the design to the fabrication phase of the programme. The laser will provide a speed-oflight precision capability to counter rocket, artillery and mortar projectiles. As of 6 January 2010 the programme had already began buying BCS components from a variety of suppliers.
