Soldiers, sailors, airmen – these are the tips of the spear of defence. These military assets must be strong, focused and certainly formidable enough to tackle any obstacle. Their weapons must be tough, their clothing, vehicles and, most certainly today, their electronics must be well built. Today’s tough standards dictate that a laptop computer must be droppable, sand and dust-proof and some must be able to work underwater.

Is That Your OS in Your Pocket?

 
Lockheed Martin and Ironkey have combined forces to bring a secure computing flash drive that effectively shrinks a laptop’s hard drive – including operating system, software and files – onto a USB key. The Ironclad USB key includes technology to securely run the operating system directly from the flash drive, therefore users can plug the key into almost any computer in the world and have instant access to their own personal desktop and files – all without their files ever touching the hard drive of the borrowed computer (which translates into never leaving a trace on the ‘borrowed’ computer). The Ironclad USB key includes at least 8 GB of 256-bit hardware- level encrypted storage. Each key is also setup as a hardware node on a centrallymanaged network that allows complete security control and manages the applications that may or may not be installed onto the drive.
