Survitec, the global leader in critical safety and survival solutions, has been awarded a significant contract to supply its Survival Technology to five Type 31 Frigates being built by Babcock for the Royal Navy.

Under the terms of the agreement, Survitec will manufacture and supply four 100-person and four 25-person liferafts to each vessel. Survitec’s liferaft solutions undergo stringent testing and validation to ensure compliance with the highest performance and safety standards. The contract also includes the supply of six scramble nets and ladders to each vessel.

The contract with Babcock is particularly noteworthy for its longevity, as the build of these five vessels extends into 2028. The Type-31 Frigates are multi-role vessels designed to bolster the UK’s maritime defence capabilities, serving alongside destroyers and aircraft carriers. The first vessel will launch this year, marking a milestone in the UK’s naval modernisation efforts.

Commenting on the contract win, Dom Cartwright, Executive Managing Director – Aerospace and Defence at Survitec, said, “This contract underscores the UK Government’s strategic commitment to strengthening the nation’s defence sector while enhancing its naval forces’ safety and operational efficiency. Survitec’s pivotal involvement in the Type 31 Frigate programme highlights our extensive technical and manufacturing experience spanning over 160 years, reaffirming our dedication to innovation and excellence in safeguarding naval operations and frontline personnel.”

In addition, Survitec will provide comprehensive after-market solutions, including servicing and maintenance, leveraging its extensive service network across key ports globally.

Martin Beagan, Regional Head of UK Sales – Aerospace and Defence at Survitec, said, “We are proud of Babcock’s decision to select Survitec for this crucial project. The inclusion of Survitec’s Survival Technology on the Type 31 frigates displays our British partners’ trust in the reliability and adaptability of our solutions.”

A key element of the Type 31 programme is to supply a design that can secure a range of export orders and, thereby, support the UK economy and UK jobs.

Beagan added, “This contract further strengthens our resolve to expand our reach internationally, showcasing the excellence of our Survival Technology worldwide.”
